Hi, I’m Alex Paul — a Senior iOS Developer, educator, and endurance athlete based in New York City. Over the last decade, I’ve built and shipped impactful apps for brands like The New York Times, mentored hundreds of aspiring engineers, and completed multiple IRONMAN races.
My Journey into iOS Development
My career in tech began with a fascination for mobile development and a strong desire to build things people could hold in their hands. After completing my degree in Computer Science at NYIT, I dove into iOS full-time in 2015. I’ve since worked at agencies like SWARM and then joined The New York Times, where I help shape the subscription experience across News, Games, Cooking, and Audio.
What I Work On
At NYT, I focus on growth infrastructure, A/B testing, and subscriber flows, shipping features that impact millions of readers. I’m passionate about writing scalable, testable Swift code—whether it’s UIKit or SwiftUI—and love experimenting with technologies like StoreKit 2, App Intents, and AI-assisted tooling.
You can find a few of my personal projects on the App Store:
- StrideCast – Weather-based running gear suggestions powered by LLM-generated imagery.
- KneeFit – A rehab app born from personal recovery.
- CivicsTest – A Naturalization studying app
Teaching & Mentorship
Before joining NYT, I taught iOS development at Pursuit, a non-profit dedicated to empowering people from underserved communities in tech. I designed and delivered 80+ lessons, mentored 60+ fellows, and helped many publish their first App Store projects. I’m incredibly proud of this work—teaching keeps me grounded and always learning.

Beyond Code
I’m also an IRONMAN finisher, long-distance runner, and world traveler. Training for endurance events has taught me resilience, focus, and the value of incremental progress—traits that carry directly into how I build software and support teams.
When I’m not coding or training, you’ll find me with my family, exploring new tech, or sketching ideas for my next app.
