I always believe in diversification therefore I am leaning towards the iPad 2 Verizon 3G version. The 3G will be primarily used when I’m out of town or away from a wi-fi hotspot and need data. So with a different carrier than my iPhone (At & T) the probability of not having a connection will be much slimmer. Typical situation, last year I was in Lake Placid, NY and AT & T was out of range. Most people who had a connection was using Verizon. Though Verizon data speed tests on 3G seem to be a bit slower, data speed will not be a major issue when connected to 3G. It’s more important just to have a connection.
