NYRR Training Series 12 miles

Despite a right hamstring cramp at mile 10 I was able to push and continue running and finished with an 8:16 mile pace for the 12 mile run in Central Park (for those familiar with the Park we did 2x Harlem Hill).

Going into today’s run I knew I was working with fatigue legs. This week has been a bike focused week on Zwift. Two days ago I did the climb of Alpe du Zwift for the first time (4000 feet climb which is similar to the 13.8K Alpe d’Huez course with 21 switchbacks in the Tour de France) and yesterday I did a Zwift Sprint simulated stage with Team Dimension Data which pushed over FTP. Those were two hard bike days so very pleased with the outcome today.

I’ll continue the bike focus rides as IRONMAN 70.3 Lake Placid is in 7 weeks. Lake Placid has a series of climbs on the backend of the bike so running off tired legs similar to today is ideal.

Thoughts

The cramp at mile 10 was definitely a result of pushing the pace with lack of tough runs off the bike. This is also week 1 of 16 of NYC marathon training so lots of experimentation left to chisel out.

Also happy with running near even splits on lap1 and 2 of the undulating Central Park course.
